Mass Effect is one of my favorite games and The Citadel is one of the most iconic areas I’ve ever experienced in a video game. The sights, the sounds, the grandeur, its an intoxicating cocktail of incredible worldbuilding and naturally delivered lore that deserves an insane amount of praise. Every time I arrive there in the original Mass Effect, I just feel like I’ve been transported to another world.
But the point of these critiques is not to just blindly praise the levels in this game; no its to try to assess these levels and their overall quality in as unbiased a manner as possible. And despite my love for this game and the location, I cannot say that The Citadel is actually a fun location. And fun-factor is one of the driving motivations to play a video game!
So how do I reconcile these aspects of this level? Well you can find out by checking out my new Youtube channel where I pointlessly replay through games from my past and dissect the crap out of them! Let me know what you think and if you like my content, I’d love it if you could subscribe and like the videos. Enjoy!
The Citadel has the same effect on me that Star Trek decks and city shots do – a vision of a sci-fi future that isn’t hell. Great critique

Thanks! Yeah I love that the Citadel doesn’t feel dark or unnecesarily grim…makes the universe feel like something worth saving.
